FAQs - About Us

What is the Oregon City Youth Football Association?
OCYFA is an organization dedicated to the development of football skills in our student athletes. We focus on the students in 1st through 8th grades who reside in the Oregon City School boundaries. We are the football feeder program for Oregon City High School.

What is the Tualatin Valley Youth Football League (TVYFL)?
TVYFL is the organization that coordinates the play between the 30+ individual youth football associations in the Portland metro area. They provide the rules, the schedules and the officials for the approximately 200 teams and 6000 players. For more information, see the TVYFL web site.

What is the time commitment?
Compared to other youth sports the time commitment is considerable. Tackle footballbegins with mandatory skills assessments the first week of August and practices beginning the second week of August; 10 hours of practices per week (time/place TBD - not including water breaks) until after Labor Day when the regular season begins. After the regular season begins, practices are limited to 6 hours of practice a week (time/place TBD - not including water breaks). In addition to practices, games will be played every Saturday which generally requires 3 - 4 hours, including travel time to/from away locations. There are normally 8 regular season games with the possibility of two or more weeks for playoffs, if the team qualifies.

Who can participate?
Any child in grades 1 through 8 who lives in, or attends a public or private school in, the Oregon City High School boundaries, as defined by the Oregon City School District. Flag football is available for those entering grades 1-2 in the fall, while tackle football is available for those entering grades 3-8 in the fall of the respective year. However, please note no player may participate in the designated divisions if they are above age as of August 1st, as set by Tualatin Valley Youth Football Association.

What if I'm outside of Oregon City High School boundaries?
TVYFL teams are organized by the high school which you would normally attend. Please go to the TVYFL web site to find the contact information for the team that supports youth in your area.

What if I have scheduled a vacation during practice time?
If you have ANY flexibility, we highly recommend that you schedule around football season, especially in August. With TVYFL conditioning requirements and team division, it is very important that your player be there.

Does the Association have Insurance?
Yes, but it's secondary to your own personal insurance plan to which claims must be submitted first.
